A multifaceted performing artist, Elaine Lakeman has been captivating audiences here and the Dominican Republic for several years singing in local clubs in both Vancouver Island and Puerto Plata, …. sometimes on the beach! She studied performing arts in Grant MacEwan; dance, choreography, voice and acting. Her acting coach Dr Mark Schoenberg was her mentor and propelled her towards an acting career believing she had a gift for performing. She then moved to Montreal and joined the Actors Studio and began her career in several American Canadian films while also working as a dancer & back-up singer in Montreal and in war torn areas touring with the Canadian Forces to the Middle East and Europe. Fast forward a few decades and she decided to pursue a singing career and produced 2 albums When it Rains and Elena, the latter being an all-original album of songs, she co-wrote with Llyod English.
Evolving out of two ancient services of prayer as the sun is setting—vespers and compline—the service of Evensong is an opportunity to put the events of the past day into perspective, to ground one’s body, mind and spirit in preparation for the restorative night of sleep, when in our dreaming, our subconscious will continue the creative work of making sense of our experiences.
Jazz, as Ken Burns says, is “a profound intersection of freedom and creativity”. So, whether you are a seasoned jazz lover or a newcomer to the genre, you will be sure to find something to speak to you at this unique and moving experience of making sense of your day. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this inspiring and intimate celebration of faith and music. All are welcome!
