Over the course of 2013-2016, Victoria Indigenous artist Carey Newman created the Witness Blanket, a wall-sized monument to experiences of residential school Survivors and their families. Made from everyday items collected from residential schools across Canada, each object and each Survivor has a story to tell.
Picking up the Pieces: The Making of the Witness Blanket is the 90-minute film of Carey’s personal journey, and shows how art can open our hearts to the pain of truth and the beauty of resiliency.
This evening's screening and Q&A is hosted by the Canadian Heritage Arts Society (who operate the Canadian College of Performing Arts), and is a ReconciliACTION Oak Bay Network event.
Admission is free, although any donations on the night will cover event costs and support future activities of the ReconciliACTION Oak Bay Network.
