The synod of the Diocese of British Columbia, located in downtown Victoria, is seeking a part-time archivist to ensure the preservation of the records of forty-six Anglican churches, including appraisal, acquisition, description and arrangement within the Diocesan Archives building, which is approx. 800sqft. The archivist will set and maintain regular hours in which the Archives are “open” to receive phone and email enquiries, provide requested materials, and to supervise the use of existing records by researchers.
Preferably, we are looking for an individual who has a minimum of two years experience in archival work and a formal education in records information management (such as an Information Management, Archives, or Library Technician degree).
Candidates must be able to provide a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector search, and abide by the Association of Canadian Archivists Code of Conduct and the Diocesan code of conduct, including a confidentiality agreement, information security policy, privacy policy, etc.
This is a part-time position for 12 hours per week.
COVID-19 precautions: The Archives building is a completely self-contained building in which no other staff work; the archivist would set their own permissions regarding visitors during the pandemic. Other diocesan staff may attend the building, but with strict social-distancing, masking, and sanitizing procedures in place.
The diocesan office is a professional but casual working environment where a small, tight team works together to serve a diocese of forty-six parishes through the administration of human resources, payroll, insurance, asset management, refugee programming, visioning (community development), and archival management.
