The Oak Bay community gathers at the Sno'uyutth Welcome Pole in front of Oak Bay School to honour the survivors of the Indian Residential Schools and other institutions, and the children who never returned home. This is the fifth annual observance of this important act of remembrance, hosted by ReconciliACTION Oak Bay Network. This year our observance takes place in advance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day (September 30) out of respect for the survivors who will be focused on the celebration of culture and resilience at the South Island Powwow on that day.
So, join us at 11:30am on September 28 for a brief ceremony and silence.
Then consider making plans to attend the South Island Powwow at Royal Athletic Park on September 30 itself. Gates open at 10am, with ceremony, song and dance throughout the day.
