About the Musicians

Emily Richardson is an avid performer of flutes both early and modern. Originally from Calgary, she has played with ensembles across Canada including the Red Deer Symphony, National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra. Inspired by her love for Bach, Emily began studying the baroque flute during her Masters degree at UBC, and has since performed in the Toronto Bach Festival and with Victoria Baroque. She recently joined the Naden Band as a full-time member. In addition to performing, Emily teaches flute to all ages, and loves being able to "nerd out" about music and share her passion. Emily is grateful to be a part of St. Mary’s concert series, getting to present some of her favourite chamber pieces with friends.

Jany Lu is a keyboard faculty at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, collaborative pianist with the Young Artist’s Collegium Program, and a frequent collaborator with members of the Victoria Symphony and University of Victoria. Recent appearances include Emerging Artists Alumni Series at UVic, Carnival of Our Animals with the Victoria Symphony, Chemanius Classical Concert Series, and Odyssey with the Pacific Opera.

Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Le Lu has dedicated years to the Toronto District School Board as an itinerant music instructor. As a performer, he has played with the National Ballet of Canada and made guest appearances as Principal Clarinet for the Thunder Bay and Windsor Symphonies as well as the Hamilton Philharmonic. Le is currently a member of the Royal Canadian Navy's Naden Band. Playing occasionally with the Victoria Symphony, Victoria’s Island Chamber Winds, and the Victoria Choral Society Orchestra. He has shared the stage with Coldplay's Chris Martin and Katy Perry, the Barenaked Ladies’ Bassist Jim Creeggan, flustists Emmauel Pahud and Greg Patillo. Le finds joy in exploring the scenic trails, running, the breathtaking views of Victoria, as well as cooking. Le is honoured to be sharing the music with friends as part of the concert series at St Mary’s.

Yanina Kosivanova is a Ukrainian-Canadian soprano. She holds a Music Performance Diploma from Camosun College and the Victoria Conservatory of Music and has just completed her Bachelor’s degree in Classical Voice at the University of Victoria where she studied with Benjamin Butterfield. Yanina’s studies and performance has taken her across Canada. She got to perform in Toronto, Ontario while being a participant of Ukrainian Art Song Summer Institute in 2022 and 2023, as well as Orford, Quebec while studying at Orford Musique in 2024. Yanina is an active performer, she frequently appears at concerts and community events, particularly within the Ukrainian cultural community. When she’s not making music, you’ll likely find her on roller skates. She even coaches skating in her spare time.
